Skylar Bull Lyon

Skylar Bull Lyon (he/him) is a Minnesota based conceptual artist and art theorist working primarily in printmaking and installation.  His work often examines and deconstructs verbal and visual language through repeated images.  His process is often based heavily in the conceptual phase of working where pieces are planned out ahead of time from the subject matter to the number of prints and how they will be set up.  Much of this is done both through archival research and philosophical inquiry.

In Bull Lyon’s work memory is brought to the forefront through the examination of printmaking processes and the way in which they rely upon the reproduction of imagery and the way in which they become a remnant of the actual event.  Using both found and staged photographs, Bull Lyon often accompanies them with both poetics and hand drawn works.  In addition to his visual art, Skylar Bull Lyon is an art theorist focusing on the application of post-structuralism to visual art.
